CHICAGO - Southern Miss and East Carolina are tied for second place in Conference USA's 2001 preseason football poll, just behind last season's conference champion Louisville, according to a poll taken by the league's Sports Information Directors at C-USA's annual SID meetings in Chicago. Bower Named One of Nation's 10 Coaches; Golden Eagles Picked In Top 25

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Pigskin Post, an online college football publication, has tabbed Southern Miss Head Football Coach Jeff Bower as one of the top 10 coaches in the nation. The article, written by Mike McNamee, a sportswriter who has worked for USA Today, the Birmingham Post-Herald and the Mobile Press Register, places Bower No. 7 on a list, who includes in order Frank Beamer (Virginia Tech), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Bobby Bowden (Florida State), Joe Paterno (Penn State), Mike Belotti (Oregon), Steve Spurrier (Florida), Barry Alvarez (Wisconsin), Dennis Erickson (Oregon State) and George O'Leary (Georgia Tech). Future Meeting Dates The Montgomery Eagle Club/Alumni Association will hold several meetings during 2001. Scheduled meetings are for August 11th, September 6th, October 4th, and November 1st. All meetings will be held at 6:30 at the Fox & Hound English Pub and Grille unless otherwise notified. Special events and speakers will be posted as soon as they are determined. Katrina Taylor-Washington '91 was recently promoted to Research Specialist at the Center for Government at Auburn University Montgomery. Way to go Katrina!
Terry Hare, First Grade teacher at Wetumpka Elementary, was recenlty recognized for her hard work by recieving the Golden Apple award. This award is presented by a local television station to recognize teachers for outstanding work. Way to go Terry! |
